The value of learning through art and fun.

We carry out activities full of meaning and new learnings with the children. We do with them a great variety of artistic and manual works, school support, English workshop and games, who develop the will, manual skill, the initiative, patience, the perseverance and autonomy of the child.

The rhythmic organization of activities. The daily rhythm.

The school day is organized in such a way that the same sequence of activities is repeated each day, this

gives the child a feeling of order and confidence, so it can be located in time. In our summer school we will follow the same daily rhythm of primary school.

1-. Rhythmic Part.

We start the day moving, to awaken our limbs and come into contact with our sleeping bodies, rhythmically and harmoniously.
In this first hour of the morning we carry out activities such as:

  • Jump rope
  • Games with bags
  • songs
  • Poems
  • Rhythms
  • Rhythmic games
  • Ball activities
2-. School support and narrative.

This second hour of the morning, corresponds to what in Primary we call the Main Class.
Here the children will be able to receive school and academic support in the learning they have received during the course, following the waldorf learning method at all times.
The reinforcement activities will be:

  • Review of multiplication tables
  • Mental calculation
  • Review of the four basic math operations: sum, stay, multiplication and division, according to the level of each child.
  • For children from 4th grade, operations with fractions and from 5th, with decimals
  • Solving mathematical problems in a practical way
  • Review and reinforcement in reading-writing
  • Individual and aloud reading will be encouraged, during these classes
  • The written writing will be worked on, according to the level of each child
  • Dictations will be made
  • Some spelling rules will be reviewed or learned.

Also during this time, the summer tasks that each child has will be carried out., to be able to receive help in its preparation and to be able to rest during the month of August.

This class will end with the narration of a story. This is another of the fundamental aspects of Waldorf education: listening to stories that the teacher tells in their own words is a powerful experience that makes the child feel involved. Not only language and listening skills are highlighted through oral work, it also stimulates a strong sense of identification.

3. English classes.

After the first break, the children will receive an English class every day, through games, songs, poems, storytelling and reading picture books.
From September, Our Primary and Secondary school will become a bilingual Spanish and English school, and we want our summer school to act as a springboard towards this change of model.
English classes will be a reinforcement so that children can make the transition to this new reality more easily, but also throughout the day, this language will be implemented in many of the activities, so that during the four weeks of summer school there will be a 50% in English and a 50% in Spanish.
For children who come from out of school, this can also be a reinforcement and a good opportunity to strengthen this language.

4. Workshops.

Each day there will also be a specific artistic workshop, that will last one or several days, depending on the activity:

  • Painting workshop
  • Modeling workshop
  • Origami workshop
  • Cooking workshop, etc.

Art is another of the fundamental aspects of Waldorf education, permeates all areas of pedagogical work and also has its own place as a specialty class, which we will also keep within the rhythm of our summer school.
It is in this activity, above all, where vocabulary in English will be introduced and they will have the opportunity to interact with their teachers in this language.

5. The game.

It is the most important activity that the child performs in school, play spaces are spaces for the future! Through play the child understands nature and its surrounding cultural environment. Through play the child develops creativity and imagination that will be the basis of their intellectual capacity. Through playing, he will also learn to interact with other children and gradually develop the conscious experience of himself..

Games in elementary school are guided by the teacher, what supposes a beginning of integration in the society and its norms of coexistence. During these classes they will have the possibility to experience these group games, but there will also be moments of relaxation, in which you can play freely.

Taking advantage of the heats of this time of year, different water games will be introduced.

The activities are organized harmoniously in the school day so that there is an alternation between moments of expansion and concentration, as if it were a breath. We carry out different types of activities in the classroom: playful, practices, manuals and artistic.

The cooking workshops for boys and girls aim to awaken the curiosity of the little ones for the kitchen to give them the possibility of discovering the flavors with their own hands, the textures and processes that carry food, in addition to raising awareness about the advantages offered by a healthy and balanced diet. The dishes that boys and girls make can be eaten at lunch.

Through the use of recyclable materials they will make their own gifts with which they will enjoy and share with their colleagues., achieving goals as important as the appreciation of their toys and companionship.

Throughout the summer school, various activities will alternate, helping to achieve common goals as a whole. This fact will allow students to become familiar with various materials, as well as different techniques for its manipulation, intending that they reach the greatest possible knowledge and experience on the subject at hand.

Among the main advantages that crafts can bring, are found promoting creative attitudes, value the work done by oneself and assume our own skills and abilities for the jobs, as well as material handling.

With this type of game, young people do good teamwork

achieving this as the main objective, because throughout the tests they themselves verify the need for all the components of their equipment and the importance of complying with the established standards (rules of the game that are given in writing to each team and explained to them before starting to play).

FRIEND MAILBOX:Activity with which it is intended to sensitize students to the virtues of their classmates, For this, the students will prepare a mailbox on the first day in which they will voluntarily and day by day write notes from some classmates to others showing what they appreciate about their friends and classmates. At the end of the week there will be a reading of all the notes.
