Crafts at the waldorf school.
By Johanna Fernandez Martinez. school craft teacher.
What our present coexists as a constant, sometimes without measure, so many visual stimuli, the screens, etc. Definitely, a technological scenario with an excessive use added to the fact that even the clothes we wear are made with synthetic fibers, the food we eat is chemically synthesized and even the materials of our children's toys. For so much, It is logical that these questions appear:
So what our senses perceive is misleading? the child who comes into this world with that desire to know, Is that relationship with the Earth in danger??
Manual activities and the subject of the Waldorf curriculum since the creation of the first Waldorf School in Stuttgart in 1919, has today more than ever, a relevance in the pedagogical work with children.
It is through contact with noble materials such as cotton, wool and wood, products of nature with appropriate activities, will be able to use their hands, his feeling and his thinking in the creation of useful and beautiful objects, developing a bond of respect and veneration for the Earth.
It is when the child makes "something" that he can use, for example the case of his flute, can be linked to a human instance that would otherwise be outside of their cognitive experience.
In textbook class it all starts when your hands are put in motion to get a job done from start to finish., taking all the necessary steps. An apprenticeship that undoubtedly balances his entire personality; awakens the thought of dreaming children, favors activity in children with difficulties to develop their will and in very intellectual children it moves the feeling. This is the great challenge of the teacher.
If you liked it and you want to delve deeper into this wonderful world, stay tuned that in the next post we open a window to the classroom of First class.
Fourth class station table:
Stars in the sky
flowers on earth
everyone in the center
spring has arrived

first class crafts
My hands have five fingers
that help me play
but at homework time
how do they know how to work,
Right hand, left hand
always willing to help
one comes to the other
And the work will begin
Another proposal of the year in a First Class is the realization of a cover for the flute. Its function to store and transport something, bear a weight, just like the earth holds us.
First class at the open house.
Open day: fifth class.
From two-dimensional to three-dimensional space with the main job of making socks. Children of this age experience a transition between the first and second passage through the Rubicon. It is the first work that takes the body itself as a guide in carrying out the task.

By Lourdes Alarcón Sevilla.
I am a student of Early Childhood Teaching at the University of Alicante Y, what's more, I am doing the training in Pedagogy Waldorf. Ambas things I'm doing them simultaneously.
In the three years that I have career, in the Degree of Education, Never with there was mentionado nothing about Waldorf pedagogy in class, and refers to others pedagogies, but of It isthis one specifically, many times, they were not even aware of it. Lor which one seems to me to show a lack of updating and research.
Thus, I was very surprised when the other day, in a subject related to psychomotor skills and movement, The teacher stopped to talk to us about the PWaldorf education and Rudolf Steiner, his thought and his work. Athe rest, He showed us videos in which the Alicante Waldorf School appeared, specifically a nursery classroom of 0 a 3 years during aper day. encouraged us to will allow children freedom of movement to experiment, to be surprised, investigate… Aof over He explained to us the importance of respect their stages of development Y no take them by thinking ahead of time.
I really liked hearing about this in class and seeing how the University encourages us to know and put it into practice.ta pedagogy and leaving education behind excathedra.

“In a world of plastic and noise, I want to be made of mud and silence” Eduardo Galeano.
For a few decades, a great industry has been emerging around childhood. An industry in which I wonder if there is too much "plastic and noise" and little "mud and silence", little space to be yourself, for that conscious place, happy, warm and simple that I feel my children need to grow. The first time I stepped foot in a Waldorf Kindergarten, I saw a sunny corner with a fertile and beautiful environment, suitable to take care of the first sprouts of the seeds that will be the women and men of tomorrow ....
It was clearer to me when my four-year-old daughter met her teacher, the first day of class. He crouched down to her height, He looked into her eyes with a radiant smile and opened his arms. My daughter got closer to her little by little until they hugged each other.. "How I wanted to meet you and what a good time we are going to have a good time! ”, Told him. At that moment I felt very excited and grateful that someone received her in that way, a welcome full of illusion, of affection and conscience on the path they were going to travel together. Although parents can stay in the period of bonding with the children, in our case it was not necessary, that moment was enough to awaken the confidence and security that a child needs to feel at home in Kindergarten.
From this garden my daughter does not bring homework, but the pockets full of treasures: piñas, palos, seeds, dry leaves ... It also brings drawings, all different, full of colors, of lines, of fantasy, with the date and name carefully written by your teacher, as if wanting to remind us that they are important and that we keep them for them.
In this Garden there are no notes or reports on whether the letters are known, the numbers or the colors. The teacher tells me if she has been happy or talkative, if you seemed sleepy or if you haven't had a good day. He tells me with sincerity and lightness the anecdotes and the conflicts, their encounters and misunderstandings, your achievements and unfinished business, but without labels, with confidence in their strengths and open to the wonderful capacity for transformation and change that children have.
In the south it rains little, but when it does, Kindergarten is a great party where, well covered with their boots and rain bibs, the little explorers happily enjoy the magic of the wet earth and the music of the puddles.
In this Garden the “Cantajuegos” does not sound nor are there digital blackboards, the voice of their teacher and her presence is like the water of an inexhaustible source of melodies from which the children drink every day. Popular songs, pentatonic, according to the time of year, also of rhymes and finger games, that later at home they hum without stopping.
From this Garden my daughter brings phrases full of force, that have become frequent sayings in our day to day as a large family: "To whom it is his turn, touch, luck is not wrong "he says when there is conflict over the blue glass. "One can have a little while to get angry", says when something irritates him.
In this garden, the breath and the rhythm of the morning is harmonious and complete, protecting children from the intellectual burden that is already common at these ages. One day I had to go early to pick her up and she didn't want to leave without listening to the story, the narration with which they end each day, which is like that delicious dessert after a healthy meal, but that in this case feeds his inner world.
For these and other experiences, I am convinced that the first shoots of our daughter are accompanied by experiences that she treasures in her heart. I trust that they are forces and impulse so that , also in his adult life, can be herself.

Necessary material: a stick, a balloon, two sheets of tissue paper (they can be of different colors), lana, flour, Water, a candle with a plastic cup about 5cm high
1) Catch a balloon, puff it up and draw a line
2) Prepare a flour and water paste by mixing hot water with flour. Break up the lumps little by little with a fork
3) Cut the tissue paper into strips
4) Support the balloon in a bowl or a cup
5) Begin to spread paste with your fingers on the bottom of the balloon. Always put a paper and another crossed.
6) This part must be reinforced well because that is where the candle will go
7) You have to put several layers and also reinforce the part where the part has been made. There you will put the wool to hang them.
8/9) Let it dry for a couple of days.
10) Puncture the balloon
11) Trim to leave a bowl
12) Make a couple of holes on all four sides. Pass the wool from one side to the other
13) Stick the candle in the ass with silicone

Our Waldorf school has beautiful playgrounds. Children play in gardens full of trees, with grass, flores, sandboxes, … A patio this green does not appear by itself. And less in Alicante, where we enjoy a lot of sun, and very little rain. Each playground is in the hands of the fathers and mothers of the school, who each year dedicate their time, love and effort to gardening.
This Sunday it was time to add to that effort and that affection, some brute force, to relocate two trees in the Primary courtyard, the youngest yard, that still has to adapt to the great influx that it has on a daily basis, with now more than 80 boys and girls full of energy.
We leave you some photos to give you the opportunity to feel part of this moment, when together we manage to give a new place to two trees, and thus open more space so that our sons and daughters can continue enjoying nature in motion.
Thanks Charles, Call, Denis , Elisa, Johanna, July, Lis and Ricardo for your time and effort! And thanks to the kids for cheering us on and helping where they could!

Dear friends,
Many of you know that the Waldorf Primary School Project in Alicante is moving forward and that, little by little, is taking shape.
In order to raise funds to finance the project, we present an original initiative, exciting and generous that is being possible thanks to some parents of the school, Myriam Fabregat and Pau Calabuig. They belong to the primary and growth work group and want to collaborate through this work.
Fruit of his vitality and curiosity, decided to take a six-month trip touring South America from Tierra del Fuego to the Galapagos with their two children who had 4 Y 2 years at that time. They were writing down their experiences in a blog (nosaltres4viatgem.blogspot.com) and have decided to contribute their experience to finance the future Waldorf primary school.
They thought about publishing a book with their experiences surrounding the trip., not only to share the beautiful places they visited, but personal and family experience, and the people they met along the way, leaving an indelible mark on them.. To this end, they have generated a crowdfunding campaign that will allow the book to be published, later sell it and support the Primary and Growth group of the Waldorf School with the funds obtained..
We ask for your participation, dissemination and maximum collaboration since we have less than 40 days to get the proposed budget. Come in and enjoy the proposal!
